AI Use Policy
1. Relationship to Publication Ethics Policy
This Policy on the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools must be read in conjunction with the journal’s Publication Ethics Policy.
All ethical principles, definitions of misconduct, investigation procedures, and enforcement measures described in the Publication Ethics Policy apply equally to the use of AI-assisted tools.
2. Purpose of the Policy
As a journal focused on IoT, embedded systems, and industrial automation engineering, International Journal of IoT, Embedded Systems and Industrial Automation (IJIESIA) acknowledges the increasing use of AI-based tools in research, technical writing, and system development. This policy aims to:
- Encourage responsible and transparent use of AI tools
- Prevent misuse or misrepresentation of AI-assisted content
- Preserve academic integrity, originality, and accountability
3. Scope and Applicability
This policy applies to:
- All manuscripts submitted to IJIESIA
- All authors, reviewers, editors, and editorial board members
- All stages of the publication process
4. Definition of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to computational systems capable of performing tasks typically associated with human intelligence, including but not limited to:
- Large Language Models (LLMs) for text generation or editing
- Machine learning tools for data analysis or optimization
- AI-based systems for image generation or enhancement
- Automated tools for translation, summarization, or code assistance
5. Core Principles
- Human responsibility: Authors remain fully accountable for all submitted content.
- Transparency: Any use of AI tools must be clearly disclosed.
- Originality: AI must not replace intellectual contribution or engineering judgment.
- Integrity: AI must not be used to fabricate, falsify, or misrepresent research findings.
AI tools cannot replace authorship, scholarly evaluation, technical validation, or ethical responsibility.
6. Policy for Authors
6.1 Acceptable Uses of AI
Authors may use AI tools for limited, supportive purposes, such as:
- Language editing (grammar, clarity, readability)
- Formatting manuscripts and references
- Assisting with programming syntax or debugging
- Supporting exploratory data analysis or visualization
All AI-assisted outputs must be independently verified and validated by the authors.
6.2 Prohibited Uses of AI
The following practices are not permitted:
- Generating entire manuscripts or substantial original research content using AI
- Fabricating or falsifying data, experimental results, or system performance metrics
- Creating non-existent, misleading, or fabricated references
- Manipulating engineering data, images, or datasets using AI without explicit disclosure
- Submitting AI-generated material as original scholarly contribution
Such practices constitute violations of the journal’s ethical standards.
6.3 Disclosure of AI Use
Authors must disclose any use of AI tools in a dedicated AI Usage Statement within the manuscript.
- Name of the AI tool(s)
- Purpose of use (e.g., language editing, code assistance)
- Confirmation that all AI-assisted outputs were reviewed and validated by the authors
“AI-based tools were used for language refinement and formatting purposes only. The authors take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the manuscript.”
7. Final Statement
International Journal of IoT, Embedded Systems and Industrial Automation (IJIESIA) supports responsible technological innovation while safeguarding scholarly integrity. Transparent and ethical use of AI tools strengthens engineering research and maintains trust in the scientific record.
